1. Vacuum Frequently
It is recommended to vacuum your carpet flooring twice to thrice a week. Be particular in the areas where there is heavy traffic. Pay attention to the part of the living room where feet rest when sitting. Also, it would be better to crisscross the strokes to ensure cleanliness.
2. Clean Spills and Blots Immediately
Accidents happen, but the damage can be lessened if you clean the spot immediately. Blot the liquid dry using paper towels. Remove as much spill as possible before any cleaning solution is applied. Always follow the manufacturer’s instruction in using the cleaning solution, and for your carpet’s safety, always test the agent to an inconspicuous carpet area to check if it will discolor your flooring.
In using detergents, excessive amount of detergent does not mean more effective cleanliness. In fact, excessive use of cleaning solutions leaves residues which hordes dust and soil making your carpet more susceptible to dirt.
3. Drying Carpet
There are several methods in drying carpets. In small and localized area, using paper towels to blot the moisture off the floor is most effective. Place a couple of paper towels in the carpet and use books or furniture as weight to absorb as much as many liquid as possible. But for a huge area, use the electric fan in drying.
Take note that the optimum drying time for carpets is 8 hours, longer than that may cause molds and mildew growth. Keep in mind that carpet manufacturers do not recommend do-it-yourself carpet cleaning.
